Performing a Search and Placing a "HOLD"

Step 1:

STEP 2:

If you will want to place holds, follow steps below.

  • Enter your library card number and your PIN in the spaces provided and click "Login" and proceed to step 3. The card you use here is the card you MUST have with you as well as the person who belongs to that card when you pick up the material at the library if you place something on hold.

  • Your PIN may be one of two things.
    A. If you previously had a PIN from the old system, that is still your PIN.
    B. If you did not have a PIN previously, then the LAST 4 DIGITS of your phone number should be your PIN.
(If it does not work, try once more and if unsuccessful call the Library @ 973-691-8686 for help, your PIN may need to be updated.)

Step 3:

  • Enter your search term in the space provided in the "Search for" box.  You can then select what library's collection you want to search or you can leave it set for "ALL".  Click on the button you which to search (author, title, subject...etc.).

Step 4:

  • Search the list of materials for something you want.

  • Click the "Details" button to see more information about a particular item.

STEP 5:

  • The detail record shows you what libraries have that item and it's availability.

  • If an item is checked out or is located at another library, you can place a "HOLD" or reserve on that item and it will be held at or sent to your library for you when it becomes available.  You can do this by clicking "Place Hold" which is located on the left hand side of the screen.

STEP 6:

  • You should see the following on your screen.

  • You can change your pickup location if needed.

  • If you have a certain date that you would no longer want the book after, enter it in the expiration date box.  Or just leave blank for no expiration date.

  • Click "Place Hold".

Step 8:

  • You should see your name and library card number along with the material information appear on the screen and "Hold(s) Placed".  Click "OK" to return to the search.
